About this movie

The fisherman? The smuggler? Or perhaps, the group of businessmen. Who will obtain possession of the priceless diamond? In Blood Diamond, Edward Zwick’s 2006 political war thriller, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Connelly and Djimon Hounsou, the clash between government supporters and rebel forces in Sierra Leone during its 1996–2001 Civil War tears the country apart. The film's ending features a convention on blood diamonds (those mined in African war zones and sold to in order to fund conflicts, benefitting international warlords and diamond companies). It references a meeting in Kimberley, South Africa in 2000, resulting in the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme, established to ascertain the source of rough diamonds, to restrict conflict diamond trade.
