About this movie

One day, while farmer Ray Kinsella (Kevin Costner) is standing in his cornfield, he hears a voice and a vision commanding him to build a baseball field in the middle of his crop. Despite financial troubles and his wife’s skepticism, Ray decides to go ahead and obey the voices in his head. Much to his surprise and gratification, upon finishing the field he is visited by the ghost of Shoeless Joe Jackson (Ray Liotta), a baseball player banned from the professional leagues following the Black Sox scandal. Soon enough Ray is hearing additional voices issuing more cryptic commands, and he finds himself on a journey with a variety of ghostly baseball players and one reclusive sports writer (the always magnificent James Earl Jones). Featuring one of the most misquoted lines in the history of cinema (“If you build it, he will come.” Not they.), Field of Dreams explores father-son relationships and the link between a national pastime and a sense of unity and cohesion.
